The Management of Swimming

Swimming has long been our ‘bread and butter’ but with ever-increasing choice with regard to physical activities operators are having to work smart in order to maintain attractive pool programmes. At our midlands event on 17th May we will talk to a number of experienced experts and examine everything from learn to swim to elite level programmes.

We will also look at a marketing and communications plan that was developed and employed in Blackpool to encourage more people to participate in swimming. To round everything off we will enjoy a sneak preview of SWIMWOD, a new and unique programme that involves pool-based workouts.

This event will provide a great opportunity for our members to engage with fellow operators who are setting the highest standards in terms of their management of swimming.

Lisa Arnold

Lisa is Leisure Services Manager with Blackpool Council and spins numerous plates during her day. One of her key areas is swimming and several years ago Lisa and her colleagues developed a fantastic programme called Liquid Assets. Lisa will discuss this along with their Learn to Swim programme which has been a big focus for Lisa and her team over the last eighteen months.

Julie Bennett

Julie is the Borough Swimming Manager for Life Leisure and we first met back in 1993 when we both worked at the newly-built Grand Central Pools facility in Stockport. It was obvious from my early days with Julie that she was a true professional who knew her stuff and in her role Julie has trebled the size of the Stockport Metro swimming programme and attracted ‘National Centre for Swimming’ status between 2008 - 2012.

Julie will join us to discuss the challenges of organising and growing a swimming development programme.

Emma Gage

I first came across Emma Gage at a Crossfit gym in Manchester where she is employed as a coach. Emma’s background in swimming is hugely impressive. At our midlands event Emma will discuss her background as a swimmer, her progression into becoming a Crossfit coach and her new SWIMWOD programme.

Sean Kelly

Sean is the Director of Performance at Life Leisure and has coached some of Great Britain’s most successful swimmers. Sean will discuss his approach to coaching and the importance of a building a World Class reputation for your programme and brand.
